A perfect start to the season for AXO saw reigning World Champion Antonio Cairoli triumph in the first round of the International of Italy, held yesterday on the beautiful track of Riola Sardo.

Cairoli, who is wearing the AXO colors for the fourth consecutive season, has clinched a clear double win both in the MX1 race and in the Elite Race, in which only the 40 best riders of both classes take part to.

On his KTM 350 SX, Tony clocked the fastest time in the qualifying session, then took two perfect starts, to clinch the win apparently with no difficulties: a good start to what will turn out to be a long season, with the first round of the Motocross World Championship kicking off in a few weeks at Doha, Qatar on March 1st.

Team mate Ken De Dycker had to sit out from the race, because still struggling with the wrist he had injured in December in a training session. Keeno is working hard to try to come back on time for the beginning of the World Championship.

A positive start for young guns Joakin Furbetta and Thomas Marini, too: in the 125 class, the first took a very promising fourth spot overall, while Marini clinched sixth in the first outing, but had a mechanical problem in Race 2.

Antonio Cairoli: “We have been training with the Team in Sardinia for a while and we are working very well. The track of Riola is one of my favourites, as it is sandy and tricky, a track where you can still make the difference. I took good starts and everything went well. I’m happy also because there was a lot of public, more than 10.000 people cheering at us. Next round will be in my Sicily, and I am sure there will be a lot of fans there, too!”.
