GLEN HELEN: GRAND PRIX OF USA MXGP

September 13, 2016

KTM REDBULL FACTORY RACING TEAM

The last MXGP Grand Prix of the season 2016 took place at Glen Helen, on the legendary Californian track. The eighteenth round of the year, the second consecutive in the US after the one played in North Carolina last week, has closed a satisfying World Championship for the KTM Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team, who placed its riders respectively at the second and seventh place in the standings. The two riders of the Roma based Team, managed by Claudio De Carli, won three qualifying races, nine podiums and three Grand Prix, scoring 1053 points i n the year.

ANTONIO CAIROLI

Antonio Cairoli was very fast right from the Saturday morning free practice (3rd), although it was still heavily weakened by the flu that hit him before the flight to cross the ocean two weeks ago and he gave everything he had, managing to be classified fourth for the qualifying race. Crashed at the start because of a contact with a competitor, Tony has recovered from the last until the eleventh position, showing tenacity and determination. In race one, the eight-time World Champion has surprised the opponents with a quick start in third, taking the lead in the fifth lap, keeping it until lap eight, when he had to give up to the local rider Eli Tomac. In race two, Cairoli started again on the gas, taking the lead in the second lap, holding it until the ninth, when again was forced to second by the American rider. The 2016 Championship is then closed with the eighth podium of the season for Cairoli that took the second place overall, scoring 647 points.

GLENN COLDENHOFF

Another good weekend for the Dutch rider who confirms seventh in the Championship standings, ending the 2016 season on a high and showing a great speed in all track conditions. Glenn, after becoming acquainted with the insidious ups and downs of the American track, was ranked in the top ten for the qualifying race, closed in thirteenth place. Started in the lead in the first round, he has suffered more than other the scorching temperatures, dropping by pace, until he crossed the finish line sixth. After a less well start in the second half, he had to fight to stay in the top ten, giving all he had. The thirteenth final position still allows him to close the 2016 season with an excellent sixth place of the day, bringing the sum of the points to 406.
