Inside the huge motorsport complex of Charlotte Motor Speedway, the American organizers have built a spectacular track, illuminated by powerful lights which are usually turned on the dirt track races that take place inside the dirt track. The brand new Grand Prix of the Americas took place throughout the day on Saturday because of the heavy rain, which forced the organizers to review the usual two days program of practices, qualifications and races, concentrating it in one day on Saturday, allowing it to maintain the track, flooded during the previous days. It was a difficult Grand Prix for Antonio Cairoli, who came from a series of three consecutive podium finishes in the last three races and which aimed to keep open the World Championship until the last race. Arrived from Europe already weakened by the principle of influence, Tony arrived today on track with a very sore throat, fever and stomach cramps that did not allow him to express himself to the best of his ability. Dress with the brand new A2 2017 limited edition set, the eight-time World Champion took home 15 points thanks to a thirteenth and a fourteenth place, which make it possible for consolidating the second position in the championship to just one race from end of the MXGP series. The bright colors of the A2 set shined both, in the bright light of the afternoon, during the first moto and under the lights of the North Carolina plant, during the second one.

The series of good results of Glen continues after the podium at Assen, missing the second consecutive podium by a single point in Charlotte. At ease right from the afternoon during the free practice, the Dutchman was unleashed in timed qualifying practice, valid for the choice of the starting gate of the two heats, setting an excellent third time. At the start of race one, the KTM De Carli team rider made a good start, entering immediately into the group of the top five and ended in sixth, after have loose one place. In race two the start was one of the best and with a beautiful jump out of the gate he managed to be second, till the third lap, when he became 3rd. The thirty-five points collected in Charlotte allow Coldenhoff to consolidate the seventh place in the standings. Next round of the MXGP in seven days on the Californian circuit of Glen Helen, for the last GP of the year.
