LEON: GRAND PRIX OF MEXICO MXGP

April 3, 2017

TEAM SUZUKI WORLD MXGP

The Grand Prix of Mexico, the fourth round of the MXGP 2017, closed the first phase of the World Motocross Championship, which was all held across overseas. The last of the four exotic stops was hosted on the demanding track of Leon, built within the Parque Metropolitano in the city, where the riders of the Team Suzuki World MXGP, have battled since the practice on Saturday morning. Qualified with the sixth and fifteenth, respectively, Kevin Strijbos and Arminas Jasikonis, they tried to do their best to earn a decent starting gate on Sunday, ending the Belgian seventh and thirteenth the Lithuanian rider. The hard and slippery surface, formed after the drying of the deep mud, has not helped the work of the riders who have had to deal with even the high temperatures, the strong wind and the abundant dust along the whole track. In the first moto, Kevin managed cross the finish line in tenth position a race conditioned from the start and the difficulty of overcoming opponents, while Arminas finished thirteenth, recovering a non irresistible start. In race two both riders took a bad start, passing the first corner far from the lead but have however recovered several positions, closing again Strijbos tenth and twelfth Jasikonis, bringing home a tenth and a thirteenth place overall. Next Grand Prix in a fortnight, on the Italian track of Arco di Trento.

22 KEVIN STRIJBOS 10th.

Kevin Strijbos: “It was a bad day at the office, didn’t feel good all weekend, I think I got sick from the plane journey and with the altitude that makes it worse too, but I don’t want to sound like I’m making excuses. I just had no energy in both motos; the RM-Z450WS was running good, the team did a great job getting that ready. It’s just a shame I couldn’t pay them back with the results. The first few laps again, I’m still struggling in the beginning, I’m trying my best to do well but whatever I seem to do, it ends up being the wrong choice."

27 ARMINAS JASIKONIS 13th.

Arminas Jasikonis: "It should be good when we get back to Europe, we can go in my camper to the races and my girlfriend and child can come and it just feels a bit more like home at the tracks. Hopefully this will turn it around for me, I feel like I’m close, I just need to get it done.”
