The 2017 Motocross World Championship season started this weekend in Qatar, under the bright of the artificial lights of the Losail's track. For the fifth year in a row the Middle East circuit host the opening round of the MXGP. It was a tough first round of the MXGP World Championship for "the Kid" who showed strong determination and good speed during the practice, finishing second during the timed session. The Belgian then ended the qualifying moto in 14th. place. In both races Kevin had troubles at the start and this made his races more difficult than planned. With his new Suzuki RM-Z450WS, Strijbos ended 11th. in race one and then 12th. in the second, witch allow him to finish 11th. overall.

Kevin Strijbos: “First race I got a good start but ran wide and Anstie also ran wide and went off the track. I just about saved it but lost a lot of positions. My riding though, I just couldn’t push, I didn’t have any energy or anything. I don’t know what was wrong. It was better in the second moto as again I got a good jump off the metal mesh but then they moved past me when we got on the soil and I couldn’t make it up."

The seasonal debut of Arminas Jasikois is postponed to next weekend, when the MXGP series will race for the second round of the year on the fresh ground of Pangkal Pinang, in Indonesia. The young Lithuanian was stopped in the airport of Doha, at the border Wednesday, coming form Europe and had some trouble with the visa, reason why he couldn't take part to the opening round of the series in Losail, forced by the local authorities to fly back to Belgium.
