The first round of the Motocross World Championship got underway this past week end on the floodlight track of Losail, Qatar. AXO made it to the podium thanks to Antonio Cairoli, who conquered third at the end of two difficult races.

Tony is still suffering from a small fracture in his shinbone, which he got in the national series, but still succeeded in making the most of it.

In Race 1 he got a good start and was fourth, but kept on pushing to eventually pass  Strijbos (Suzuki) and Paulin (Kawasaki) for the runner up spot behind Honda rider Max Nagl. A masterful display which made his leg tired also because of the many long jumps of the track.

In Race 2 the 7-times World Champion opted for not pushing too hard, so kept third position until the chequered flag, which gave him the third step of the podium of the Qatari GP.

Antonio Cairoli: “Il like this track, but it has some features which do not suit with my injured leg! I tried to make the most of it not pushing too hard. In the ned I’m happy, because two days ago I didn’t even know if I were able to finish a heat and I made it to a podium finish. I just hope my leg will be better because Thailand is coming in less than one week time!”.

Good result for AXO also from the MX2, where newcomer Josè Butron took fifth overall, courtesy of 5th in Race 1 and 8th in Race 2. It could have been even better if a crash while trying to overtake a rival hadn’t dropped him back several spots. The Spanish rider confirms his skills of great starter, anyway, as he sealed the holeshot in both races!

GP of Thailand is coming next week end, so stay tuned!
