De Rosa and AXO: podium at home GP in Imola

May 1, 2016

Raffaele De Rosa once again reached the podium, crossing the line in third position.
Today’s Stock1000 was a hard-fought one, which brought a very welcome podium result for Althea BMW man Raffaele De Rosa. Fourth on the grid, the Italian pushed hard from lap one and by lap three he had already passed Calia and Faccani to position second, after which the real battle with Mercado began. The two riders exchanged places at the front until a few laps from the end when Raffaele lost some precious time due to tyre wear. The Italian continued to push until the end to close today’s race in third position.

“A satisfactory result. My start was not perfect and I lost a few positions. Then, to make up the lost ground in the initial phases I probably pushed a bit too hard and, as a result, I suffered with the tyres from mid-race onwards. I tried to resist and fight back against Mercado but I didn’t have much more to give. I took some risks because I really would have like to win here in Italy but we’ll have to postpone that, and see if we can do it at Donington.”

Kyle started the day 4th  fastest in morning warm up on a drying track, but conditions were different again for the race and despite feeling comfortable on the bike, the lap times were eluding him.  Kyle managed to salvage precious championship points and currently stands 4th in the World Supersport Championship.

Kyle Smith
"It’s been a difficult weekend, the pace hasn’t been there from the beginning but we’ve come away with some points which is important.  I’m looking forward to the next round in Sepang and hopefully we can get back to where we should be.”
