With the title conquered by Sylvain Guintoli, AXO keeps on writing the history of the Superbike after the golden age of the Ducati riders Neil Hodgson (who conquered the title in 2003) and James Toseland (2004)…and the Italian brand, voted to pure racing, is once again up there, once again number one of the Superbike.

It’s been a triumph, a double world championship win that was just unimaginable a few races ago: after the American round at Laguna Seca the advantage Sykes (Kawasaki) had built up over Guintoli was 44 points, a huge gap with just three rounds left in the season. Since then, Guintoli has just been pushing hard to prove he is the man. At the Jerez and Magny-Cours rounds he posted a win and then always second, gaining extremely significant points that allowed the Frenchman to turn up at the Qatar round trailing Sykes by just 12 points. And then…it was just Sylvain’s show: with two brilliant and unquestionable wins in the night races of Losail, Guintoli overtook Tom Sykes, clinching the World Champion crown for the first time in his career.

Sylvain Guintoli: "The feelings right now are truly incredible. Today was a great day, two fantastic races where I felt stronger than I have ever felt in my life. I was able to be fast without any trouble and lap times were just coming easily to me. Coming to Aprilia was a great opportunity for me and before my shoulder injury, last year I was in the battle for the championship, so it was a shame to lose so much ground because of my physical conditions.

This year I was perfectly fit, so I was able to be consistent and to show our potential. I really began to believe in it after Magny-Cours, as a matter of facts I was pretty sure: we were fast, I felt good and my team gave me great support. Today I showed that I am the fastest on the track. Winning the Title by 6 points is symbolic but it is extremely important for me after all the recent controversy.

I want to thank a lot of people, starting with my family, who gave me stability and had faith in me, as well as supporting me in these months of high pressure. I am grateful to Aprilia: they provided me with the best bike I have ever ridden and a team that has become like a second family to me. Big thanks to my sponsors, too, who have been supporting me always believing I could do it!".

Congratulations to Niccolò Canepa, too, who, thanks to a win and a runner up spot in Qatar yesterday, clinched the second spot in the EVO class World Standing.

To end on a high the 2014 season: only AXO could make it to such an exploit…two world titles clinched at the top level of racing in one only season. After the eighth Motocross World Title conquered by Tony Cairoli a couple of months ago, AXO is World Champion again…thank you guys!
