AXO PODIUMS AT MAGNY COURS!

October 6, 2014

The penultimate round of the Superbike World Championship got underway this past week end at the Magny Cours track, France: and it’s been AXO show again!! AXO’s flagship riders Sylvain Guintoli and Romain Lanusse, who were riding their home GP, showed their class again. Guintoli sealed 1-2 in the hard fought Superbike races and Romain Lanusse clinched his first podium result of the season by climbing on the second step of the rostrum of the Stock 1.00 class. Not to forget Italian Niccolò Canepa, who despite some electronic issues at his Panigale 1199 EVO, clinched a runner up spot in Race 1 and the win in Race 2 in the EVO class.

Weather conditions were as bad as one can expect them to be at Magny Cours in October: rainy and foggy. In two wet races, Guintoli displayed all his class and talent: he pulled away right from the start and only Team mate Marco Melandri could keep his pace: the Aprilia duo shared the booty with a win and a runner up spot each. Courtesy of these results, Guintoli has shortened the gap in the standings on Tom Sykes, with 12 points separating the duo going into the last round in Qatar.

Sylvain Guintoli: “This was a great weekend for the Team. We are definitely back in the running for the Championship. When I saw the weather forecast yesterday evening I immediately thought that this would be a good opportunity to get some important points. I took a few risks at the beginning of the races and then, once I had created a good gap, I concentrated on staying focused to avoid any pointless risks and to take home the best possible result. I'm very happy but I am already thinking about Qatar, where the championship will be decided. It is a track that I know well and that I like and I think it will suit the RSV4 well. I wish we were racing tomorrow!”.

Niccolò Canepa: “I’m very happy with this week end, as I could show I can ride fast both on dry and wet conditions. In Race 1 I had  a better pace than in Race 2, as it was really crazy out there…I could hardly keep myself on the bike! Anyway I could fight with my rivals until the end and finally clinch the win of the EVO class!”.

Romain Lanusse: “So happy to be on the podium again after such a long time! I want to dedicate this runner up spot to my Team, who has been working hard in a very difficult season for us and to my sponsors, who have always given me the support I needed to clinch this result!”.
