In his debut season on the MX1 bike Davide Guarneri captured his first ever Internazionali d’Italia, the MX1 Italian title.
The head-to-toe supported rider rode his powerful CRF450R to fourth overall after two comeback motos at the last round of the series held yesterday at San Severino Marche: he rode strong and consistent at all four rounds of his domestic series to beat team mate Tanel Leok by 17 points, handing AXO the prestigious title.
Davide Guarneri: “Taking the championship a couple of days before my birthday is a nice present! I was trying not to think too much about the final result, because it affects your riding whether you like it or not. It was not my strongest race of the series, but overall I was pretty comfortable. My starts were not so good, but each time I managed to come back. Winning is always a great way to get yourself in the right mindset, so I’m really looking forward to the first GP of the season!
I realize that things were made a bit easier with Tony (Cairoli) and David (Philippaerts) not competing in the full series, but still I had to fight fast riders to take the title. Given the fact that I have not so much experience on the 450 I’m pleased with how the championship went and what I have learned in these races.”
AXO also clinched the runner up spot in the MX2 class thanks to Marcus Schiffer, who rode the AXO KTM Silver Action Team’s bike to third spot overall at San Severino.
The German has been on the podium in all the four rounds of the Championship and in the end he had to give up only to Charlier, on Yamaha, who eventually clinched the MX2 title.
Marcus Schiffer: I am very happy about the Vice-Champion title, my goal was to be in the top three and to gain experience on the KTM and that’s what I did. I wish to thank the Team for their great job and the sponsors who have supported me and now I am looking forward to the World Championship!”.
