AXO rider Tony Cairoli manage to clinch the runner up spot of the third and penultimate round of the Internazionali of Italy, held yesterday at Cingoli: Tony was sick and had to slow down his rhythm in Race 1 because of the flu. He had a good start, but couldn’t keep the pace of rivals Frossard e Philippaerts (Yamaha) to take the chequered flag in third.
Race 2 went a lot better, as Tony took the holeshot and kept leading the race until the end! Courtesy of these results, the World Champion claimed the runner up spot at the end of the day and the lead of the provisional chart with one race left to go.
Tony Cairoli: “I really couldn’t do better today. I was sick and weak and in Race 1 I couldn’t push harder than that. In race 2 I was feeling better and I had more energy to spend, so I took the holeshot and won the race with relative ease…all in all, not bad!”.
It’s been a good week end of racing for AXO, also thanks to Ken De Dycker, who once again dominated the Dutch Championship by winning both races and to Steve Ramon, who clinched third in the prestigious Hawkstone Park International race.
Last but not least, the Road Racing World Championship kicked off yesterday night in Qatar: AXO riders Bradley Smith e Julian Simon took ninth and tenth in the Moto2 class. This means a valuable result for Smith, at his first appearance in the Moto2 class aboard the Mistral machine of the Tech 3 Team. Simon, after good a qualifying and a good start, had to slow down his rhythm due to problems at his bike and couldn’t do better than tenth.
