CAIROLI SECOND, TIGHT IN POINTS WITH THE WINNER

Antonio Cairoli picked up the runner up spot at a sunny and busy Indaiatuba for the Grand Prix of Brazil by claiming second overall tanks to the win in Race 1 and the second spot in Race 2. Cairoli was tight in points With Philippaerts, but was denied of the first step of the podium because of the worse result in the final outing. The two Italians battled it hard in the second moto for the win, giving the vocal crowd a good reason to be throaty, but in the end Tony had to give up, as Philippaerts took the chequered flag in first.

As usual, Cairoli was a leading protagonist in front of a full set of grandstands, housing 26,000 spectators, and reduced the gap in the Championship to the leader Desalle (Suzuki) to 13 points and to 2 points to team mate Max Nagl, who sits second.

Tony Cairoli: “This kind of track does not suit my riding styling at all, but I must admit that I am very happy about how it all ended up, as I reduced the gap from the first two guys in the provisional standings. I tried hard to pass Philippartes in Race 2, but in the end I preferred not to take risks, the track was rough and bumpy and didn’t want to crash!”.

Good results for the other AXO riders, too, with Ramon, Nagl and De Dycker fifth, sixth and seventh respectively:  Ramon was seventh at the first outing, but strong and proactive in the second moto, where he broke into the top three of a race for the first time this season.

Steve Ramon: “I'm pleased with today. The first moto was a little bit difficult. I was feeling good but the speed was too slow, so I was not there from the beginning. I struggled a little bit to seventh and I knew I could do better. In the second moto I was at the front and could follow the speed of the top guys and was riding well. Three laps before the end I was getting a bit tired because I'm still not in peak fitness. Anyway I was happy with the second moto and to be part of that battle for the first positions."

Davide Guarneri suffered bad luck, a heavy crash during the qualifying race leaving him with a painful neck and the Italian sensibly sat out the remainder of the weekend's racing.
