CAIROLI, SMITH AND LANUSSE PODIUMS!

At the end of an intense week end of racing, AXO came home with great results: Cairoli took the runner up spot at the MX1 Grand Prix of Portugal, Bradley Smith clinched second in his home GP in Silverstone (Moto2 category) and Romain Lanusse grabbed the third step of the podium in the Stock 600 race held in Misano.

Cairoli displayed two brilliant races to take second in both motos behind winner Desalle. In both races Tony recovered from less than brilliant starts to close the gap on the leading group: in the final stages of the races Cairoli came close to overtake the leader, but had to be content with second spot.

Antonio Cairoli: “I am quite pleased with my performances today, but in both motos I made some mistakes in the early stages, so I had to push hard to come back and in the end I was tired when I had to pass Desalle. The goal for next races is to be more consistent in the beginning of the moto, in order to have more energy and concentration for the final stages, when I need them most!”.

Bradley Smith produced one of the performances of his career in front of his crowd at Silverstone, the British rider storming from 28th on the grid, due to an electrical fault to his Tech 3 Racing's Mistral 610 machine in Saturday’s qualifying,  to claim a stunning second place in a rain-lashed Moto2 race, his first podium spot in the category.

Bradley Smith: “The rain definitely helped me out today and I doubt I'd have finished second if it was a dry race, so for once I'm not going to complain about the British weather. Starting from 28th I knew I had to make a good start, which I did and then I just kept making moves. In the pack the spray was really bad and I couldn't see anything, so I just got my head down and went for it. I had a really good pace and  to finish second after all the chaos and drama of yesterday, it is something that I never expected when I woke up this morning. To finish on the podium in my home race two years in a row is an amazing feeling. I love Silverstone, so I can't wait to come back here next year already. Looking at the Championship I'm only 18-points behind second position, which is unbelievable considering we've had some bad luck at the start of the year. I want to say thanks to my Tech 3 Racing Team because they have done an awesome job and this gives us a lot of confidence for the next few races.”

Last, but not least, Romain Lanusse jumped on the third step of the podium of the Superstock 600 Race held in Misano: he also had to come back as he only qualified 17th on Saturday and managed to make an impressive come-back through the field.

Romain Lanusse: “It is fantastic to be on the podium here in Misano. I was not feeling comfortable in Saturday’s qualifying, I couldn’t really find my pace and the position on the grid reflected this. Then in the race I knew I had to push hard to come back: I clinched my teeth and passed many riders and until the chequered flag was waved I was third”.

Chris Vermeulen made his comeback in competition after almost one year off the bike! The likeable Australian scored points in both races with 14th and 10th and hopes to build on this next week end at Aragon.

Welcome back Chris!
