CAIROLI TRIUMPHES IN SPAIN, LANUSSE ON THE PODIUM!

AXO has triumphed at La Baneza circuit, home of the seventh round of the MX World Championship, thanks to Antonio Cairoli, who grabbed the win of the GP of Spain, his 39th career GP win.

Cairoli had to settle for second behind Frossard in the opening moto but went out for the win in the second. He was out of the gate like a rocket and slowly but surely distanced himself from the rest of the field and was five seconds in front at the checkered flag. The result has thrown down the challenge to championship leader Clement Desalle who now leads the standings by a single point from Cairoli. Tony has struggled with minor but debilitating injuries in the first half of the season but is looking confident for the second half of the season.

Tony Cairoli: “I made one small mistake when I was leading in the first race then I didn’t have the chance to pass again. Then I took the holeshot in the second race. Tanel Leok was riding very fast and I couldn’t pull away but then maybe he was getting a bit tired so I could make a good gap. I think in Sweden we can take back the red plate, but now I am glad we have one week end off to come back to top form!.”

Red Bull Teka KTM factory teammate Max Nagl finished with a 4-6 result fifth overall, while it was a harder week end for the other AXO riders: Ramon, De Dycker and Guarneri have finished 11th, 14th and 17th respectively.

In the meantime, at Aragon, Romain Lanusse stepped on the second step of the rostrum and leads the provisional standings, while Chris Vermeulen, in SBK, was 12th in Race 1 and 14th in Race 2.

Congratulations to Ivan Lazzarini, too, who grabbed the win of the Busca round of the Internazionali of Italy, while young gun Sammartin was seventh overall.
