One of the toughest rounds of the Motocross World Championship went underway this week end in Lommel, for the GP of Limburg.
AXO rider Ken De Dycker entered his home event with memories of his 2009 success at the same venue but fully aware that his lack of riding time through the summer break as a consequence of his gruesome arm injury in Sweden would be a disadvantage. The German GP winner was not among the leading troupe but did well to finish 7th and 5th for 6th place by the end of the day.
Steve Ramon was unlucky not to pick up a trophy. Positive starts by the Belgian and decent speed across the two motos saw him among the leaders. In the first moto he was part of the leading group but a brief crash meant he had to be content with sixth spot. His position of fifth looked likely to be better in the second moto as he held the runner-up slot comfortably ahead of Max Nagl but misjudged a jump-approach and fell heavily off the side of the track. The 30 year old completed the race in 11th for eighth overall.
Ken De Dycker: "Today went OK and I was not expecting too much. With everything that has gone on in the last weeks and not being able to ride because of my arm I have to be happy with seventh and fifth. I was perhaps a bit too slow in the first moto but I wanted to save something for the second. The second was better and I think with some training this week I will be sharper for Loket. Normally I don’t get blisters but my hands are covered in them now so that’s just an indication of the bike time I have missed since Sweden.”
Good progresses for Max Neukirchenr in the SBK round held at Silverstone. In the first race, he was able to climb from his grid position of 18th to 11th at the flag. The German looked set to repeat the performance and break into the top ten in race two, before a mechanical problem forced his retirement.
