The first USGP of the century, held at the steep hills of Glen Helen, near San Bernardino and an hour east of Los Angeles, housed a layout that was rough and extremely quick compared to normal Grand Prix circuits. The extra length created the longest lap-time of the year. The two 35 minute and 2 lap motos were demanding simply due to the hot and dry heat that climbed to over thirty degrees, but the AXO crew in MX1 brought home good results, as Steve Ramon, Ken De Dycker and Davide Guarneri ended the Gran Prix of USA in fifth, sixth and seventh spot respectively.
Steve Ramon rode to 7th and 6th as he continues his steady path back to full fitness and speed in the wake of his fall during qualification for the Grand Prix of Portugal three weeks ago. The former World Champion sits now in sixth in the provisional chart and only needs 11 points to catch David Philippaerts in 4th.
Steve Ramon: "It was a bit warm today! At the moment I cannot do any better and I have to live with it. I would like to run with the top guys but after the crash in Portugal I have not been able to ride and I miss that training. It was OK today and I feel my body is getting better. I want to get back to my usual routine and reach the level I had before Valkenswaard."
Ken De Dycker went 4-10 at the end of the day: Keeno produced a strong performance in Race 1 to recover from a bad start and worked his way up to fourth before the chequered flag was waved and occupied the fifth spot in the standings.
Davide Guarneri was consistent all week end long: after qualifying in fifth on Saturday took 8th in Race 1 and seventh in Race 2 to bring home his best result of the season so far, in his first appearance in the queen class. The from head to toe AXO supported rider showed good speed and was able to handle the physically demanding circuit and is looking forward to improve his performances in the GPs.
The AXO crew will now get back to Europe to begin immediate preparations for the Grand Prix of France at St Jean D'Angely next weekend.
