INTERNAZIONALI OF ITALY, 2nd ROUND: CAIROLI PODIUMS, G

The second round of the Internazionali of Italy, held at Faenza (centre of Italy) has seen AXO and Tony Cairoli climb on the second step of the podium at the end of an intense day of racing, while Kawasaki rider Guarneri clinched fourth overall.

In Race 1 Cairoli had a good start and spent some time to catch Honda’s Bobryshev to claim second as the chequered flag was waved.

In Race 2 the world champion tangled up with Philippartes right at the start and had to come back from 15th. Tony produced a spectacular performance to pass a lot of riders and his rival Philippartes at the very last corner, to clinch third and a well deserved runner up spot at the end of the day.

Max Nagl had a DNF in Race 1, but showed his potential with his KTM 350 in Race 2, where he had a good start and finished second in front of his team mate.

Tony Cairoli: “I am quite pleased with how things went today, as now I am second in the championship chart. In Race 1 it took me some time to pass Bobryshev, then I suffered from some arm pump at the end of the heat, so I couldn’t push enough to catch Frossard. At the start of Race 2 I had a contact with Philippaerts and I lost lots of positions: I started to come back and once I clinched fourth, I push hard to catch Philippaerts again and I manage to pass him right at the end of the race!”.
