Sankt Wendel, Germany, played host to the second Grand Prix of the SuperMoto World Championship, this past week end.

AXO rider Ivan Lazzarini had a blistering weekend and made it to the second step of the podium: he was Saturday’s fastest rider in a really hot and tight time practice in Sankt Wendel, having just a tenth of a second difference with the second classified Hermunen. The Italian had to wait until the last rider went through the finish line to assure his result as the fight among the first five riders was really tough. In fact, Lazzarini stormed to the top of the time sheets only towards the end of the session.

The HM Honda Racing’s rider was consistent this weekend and was second in the overall classification. His day two in Sankt Wendel did not start as he expected, with the Italian making a mistake in the Superpole and dropping down to fourth in row one. In the opening moto he did not start well but exploited the crashes of Hiemer and Adrien Chareyre to end an eventual fourth. However, in the two following races he showed his speed and finished third and second.

Ivan Lazzarini: “I am happy to be back on the podium again, even if I would have preferred to win the race! I took the fastest time on Saturday, but then I made a mistake in my superpole lap and took quite a bad start in race 1. Anyway, this is only the second round of the Championship and we still have a long way to go, so I hope to take the win in the next races!”.

At Brno, in the ninth round of the Superbike World Championship, AXO riders Max Neukirchner and Chris Vermeulen had a tough week end: the first called it a day by crashing out of both races right after the start, while the latter was involved in Max’ crash in Race 1 hurting his old right knee injury. He gamely fought back to start race two, but retired on the second lap.

Steve Ramon scored another podium finish in round three of the Belgian Championship, where he was second overall behind team mate Clement Desalle.
