AXO clinched a great result in the GP of the USA, as Max Nagl stormed to the runner up spot and Antonio Cairoli grabbed fifth at the end of an intense day of racing in San Bernardino, California.
The KTM AXO duo had a good start in the first moto, with Cairoli second and Nagl third on the first lap, positions that they eventually kept until the chequered flag.
In Race 2 it was Nagl to clinch the best result, as he started fourth and came back until second position, for the runner up spot of the Gran Prix of the United States.
Cairoli had un unlucky second outing, as he had a rider almost jump onto his back and make him crash. Cairoli hit the dirt, but fortunately unhurt. His KTM came out of the crash with several damages, but Cairoli managed to come back until eleventh spot.
Max Nagl: “I am very happy of this second spot, gained on a tricky track like Glen Helen! I have a very good feeling with my KTM and today it was almost perfect! I had two good starts, but I have lost too much time in the early stages, otherwise I am sure I could have fought for the win!”.
In the meantime, a good, clean and most of all dry French Grand Prix saw Julian Simon fighting for a podium position all race long. The Spanish rider started from ninth in the grid and was fourth in the opening lap, position that he held on to as the chequered flag was waved. Courtesy of this strong result Julio is now second in the Moto2 standings.
British rider Smith stormed to his third top ten finish in four races after he produced a gutsy ride, to take ninth at the end of the 26-lap race.
