2010 Motocross World Championship campaign kicked off last week end at Sevlievo for the Grand Prix of Bulgaria: AXO riders were all ready to battle against the world’s best and it was Steve Ramon, in his brand new Underachiever black gear and Dart boots, who took the best result.
The former World Champion could only work his way up to 7th in the opening MX1 moto, as he was struggling with the bike and making small mistakes, after a top ten start.
After changing the set-up of his RM-Z450WS, Ramon was back to his regular smooth style, battled hard with team mate Desalle and got third, which meant fifth overall at the end of the day.
Steve Ramon: ”Moto 1 was just so frustrating, the suspension settings we used just did not work for me on these conditions. I felt like I was fighting the bike all the time on the choppy bumps and therefore just couldn’t move forward as I had hoped. We reverted to some ‘older’ and ‘known’ settings for moto 2 and the bike was back exactly how I like it. I was able to get great drive up the long hills and I was therefore able to push through and up into 3rd position. I am in a good points position leaving here today and I look forward to Italy next weekend.”
Ken De Dycker on the Yamaha of the Monster Energy Ricci Team was sixth just behind his former Team mate, as he got fourth in Race 1 and 8th in Race 2.
Ken De Dycker : “It was a difficult day. The first moto was OK. I had a pretty decent start but was caught in the back markers and made mistakes. The track was very different to past years. It was good but demanding. I had a bad start in the second moto. I could not find good lines and was making a lot of mistakes. I don’t have any excuses, I train really hard but I could not get going for the second moto.”
Davide Guarneri also produced a strong performance as he rode his Honda in tenth position overall in what was his first ever MX1 Grand Prix: it’s clear that “Pota” has got what it takes to be fast on the MX1 bike!
Do not miss the next round of the MX World Championship, to be held at Mantova in a few days time!
