The AXO supported Red Bull Teka KTM MX1 Factory Racing squad chose the first round of the Italian Championship at Ponte a Egola to launch their 2011 competition season, a race day that turned out to be a battle against the rain and mud as much as the track.
After setting the best laptime in qualifying, Tony had a good start in both races, but had some problems with his goggles, which forced him to slow down his rhythm and ride very carefully to take 2-4 for a well deserved fourth spot overall at the end of the day.
Tony Cairoli: “I liked the track, but rain and mud made it difficult for me out there. In Race 1 I was riding comfortably, but then I had to take off my goggles and got mud in my eyes, it was painful actually! In the end I finished both races and took home fourth spot overall, which, considering the situation, is not bad at all!”.
Good results also for Davide Guarneri, who rode his Rockstar Lovemytime Kawasaki to sixth overall and for Max Nagl, who, due to bad starts, could only work his way up to eighth.
In the meantime, Steve Ramon took overall victory in Lacapelle Marival, France, as the MX1 and MX2 GP riders came together for this international event, while De Dycker was third in the Overall MX1 chart.
The next round of the Italian Championship is at Faenza on March 6 and the AXO guys are scheduled to compete as they continue with their pre-season race preparation ahead of the World Championship GP series starting in Bulgaria at the beginning of April.
