TONY RUNNER UP IN FRANCE!

AXO has scored another podium finish in the Gran Prix of France, where Tony Cairoli clinched the runner up spot and got nearer to the top of the provisional standings: now only 6 points separate him from Desalle, still leading the chart.

At the spectacular track of Saint Jean d’Angely, in front of a large crowd, Cairoli managed to finish second in Race 1: he had a nice battle with Frossard for the win, but made a mistake on the very last lap, which forced him to slow down and settle for the runner up spot.

In race 2 Tony had a bad start and, clinching his teeth, started to come back form ninth spot and as the chequered flag was waved, he was rewarded with third position and the second step of the podium of the GP.

Tony Cairoli: I am quite pleased with today’s races. It’s a shame I didn’t clinch the win, but I gained many points on Desalle and that’s the important thing looking at the championship. In Race 1 I had a good start, battled with Frossard, but then I started to get tired, had  to slow down a little bit and Philippaerts passed me. He then made a mistake and crashed and I could go again on Frossard’s tail. On the final lap it was my turn to make a mistake and I has to be content with second spot. In race 2 I missed the start and it was clear I had to come back. I kept on pushing hard until I reached  third, but at that point it was too late to catch Desalle and Frossard!

Good performances for De Dycker, sixth at the end of the day on the Honda of the LS Team and Nagl, who was just behind him in the GP classification.

Now bad news coming from the Moto2: Julian Simon was dealt a cruel stroke of luck in the Grand Prix of Catalunya, when he was second behind Bradl and fighting for the win. Sofuoglu came on far too strongly when entering turn eleven, clipping the back of Simon's bike and sending him through the air. The Clinica Mobile diagnosed a fractured tibia and fibula in his right leg, later confirmed by the medical staff of the Catalunya General Hospital, where he was immediately taken.

The AXO staff wishes Julian to get well soon and to come back to competitions as soon as possible. Go Julio!
