TONY THIRD AT THE END OF THE INTERNAZIONALI OF ITALY

The last round of the Internazionali of Italy, held yesterday at the Galaello circuit near Brescia (north of Italy) has not been lucky for AXO rider Tony Cairoli, who had to win both races to clinch the title.

Tony clocked the fastest time in the morning’s qualifying and produced a strong performance in Race 1, where he took the win after an exciting battle with title contender Frossard. In Race 2, at the second turn he tangled up with Philippaerts: he didn’t crash, but lost some spots and as a results some rays of his front wheel got broken, which meant the bike had lost stability, forcing the World Champion to slow down his rhythm. Tony could not keep the pace of the leaders and finished the race in 10th, which meant the third step of the podium of the overall and the third spot in the championship, won by Frossard.

Tony Cairoli: “It’s a shame I have not clinched the title, but that’s racing. When Philippaerts hit me, some rays of the front wheels got broken, then one twisted around the hub and I couldn’t’ push as hard as in the early stages of the race. All in all I am happy because I have been riding fast and this is a good signal  before the World Championship kicks off in Bulgaria in two weeks time”.

Good performances also from Tony’s team mate Max Nagl, sixth in the final chart and from Davide Guarneri who, aboard the Kawasaki of the Rockstar Lovemytime Team, took sixth at the end of the day and the seventh spot in the final chart.
